hope for hurting parents

A common problem for hurting parents of prodigal children is isolation.  Our guilt, shame, and worry causes us to withdraw and choose not to talk with others about our children and the harmful choices they have made.

At Grace Chapel, it is our strong belief that we're not created to live life alone but to live in community.  Life with all of its joys and and sorrows is to be experienced with others.  Mutual encouragement and confidentially shared trials help to lighten our load and increase strength for the journey, which is where the power of support groups can help.

Our support group facilitated by Kevin & Linda Noe meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month in the West Room from 6:30-8:00 pm.  The group is intended for parents of children 16+ years and older including adult children. Our promise to parents who participate is each support session will be free of judgement and a commitment to confidentiality. Our meetings are not a Bible study or Prayer group, but we will refer to scripture for direction and we will purposely pray for you and your children. Our support can include step-parents and grandparents, too.

Each couple/participant will receive a free copy of the "Hope For Hurting Parents Notebook".  Written by Tom & Deno Yohe, they share valuable insights into 22 different topics that most parents of prodigal children face.

The Parent Notebook explains what to expect in the support group, introduces the authors, provides group guidelines, and tells what others are saying about these faith-based groups. The notebook also contains the content that is discussed in the meetings. The topics are: grief and loss, enabling, guilt, fear, detachment, worry and anxiety, anger, resentment, letting go, expectations, guarding your marriage, guarding your family, powerlessness and control, communication, waiting, surviving the holidays, courageous love, forgiveness, thankfulness, self-care, expectations, and hope. A page for journaling or note-taking is at the end of each session.
