Summary

Romans 6:14

14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. 

Romans 6:15

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under

grace? By no means. 

Romans 6:16a

16a Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey –

Romans 6:16b

16b whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or slaves to obedience, which leads to righteousness. 

Central truth: You are a slave to sin OR a slave to righteousness, depending on the master you choose. 

Romans 6:17

17  But thanks be to God that, you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 

Romans 6:18

18 You have been set free from sin and now you are slaves to righteousness. 

Romans 6:19a

19a I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer parts of our body in slavery to impurity and to ever increasing wickedness, 

Romans 6:19b

19b  so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.” 

Romans 6:20

20  When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 

Romans 6:21

21  What benefit did you reap at the time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death. 

Romans 6:22

22  But now you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefits you reap leads to holiness and the result is eternal life.

 Romans 6:23a

23a For the wages of sin is death 

Romans 6:23b

23b  but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord 

Application 

  1. The first thing you may need to do is become a Christ follower. 

Application 

  1. Acknowledge that you have a choice.

“Today, I choose who I will serve”. 

Application 

  1. Call on the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us overcome and avoid sin.
